Election Day Blogging

VCAM has set up an election day blog called Exit Voices. People are leaving their voting stories in the comment thread of the post.

Says Vermonter:

I voted in Monkton this morning at 7:30 — and for the first time on an optical scan ballot. No more folded paper in a plywood box for us.

Not sure exactly how I feel about it…

Kind of missed the folksy smalltown feel of the old system. But, at least optical scans have both the benefits of speedy vote counting and a paper trail.

Not sure why, but I love this kind of anthropolical snapshot of our electoral process.

And I love election day! It's like a big holiday. Also, it gives us the opportunity to put the election behind us.

UPDATE: People are also sharing their voting stories on Freyne Land. Surprise surprise.

I got my voting done in the early afternoon yesterday (Monday, 11/6). When I was at the Montpelier City Clerk's office filling out my absentee ballot, there were at least four other people I noticed who came to vote by absentee ballot during the time I was there as well. Not bad.

WCAX - Channel 3 TV - News just cut in with a special report during a commerical break for the CBS News and reported that, while there are no available vote totals as of yet -- the Associated Press has declared Peter Welsh the winner of the VT U.S. House race and Bernie Sanders the winner of the U.S. Senate seat up for grabs, based upon exit polling across the state.
