Don't Mess With the Model Horse Hobbyists!
Freelance writer Alice Levitt went to the "Everything Equine" horse show last weekend and wrote about it for our column, Scene@, that appears in the Calendar section of the newspaper. Scene@ is a short little feature — 350 words or less. It's basically a first-person "being there" piece, so it has more "attitude" than a news story would.
Well, the model horse hobbyists Alice mentioned in her write-up thought that she put a little too much attitude in her account. One of them started a thread at modelhorseblab.com called
"A good example of Ignorance towards this hobby (or any hobby really)"
There are 9 pages of angry replies, including one that ends thusly: "She's still a bitter dried up inside she-snake and woe to her if she steps foot in our barn." Whoa, Nelly!
Consequently, the "Everything Equine" Scene@ is the 6th most popular item on our website this week, and climbing. (Photo from the horse show by Matthew Thorsen.)

It is interesting that Cathy Resmer is surprised by the critique of the Model Horse Hobbyists towards the article "Everything Equine" by Alice Levitt. The article was not only full of attitude but general disdain in the writing assignment given to an author who's main experience lies in discussing food. Obviously Resmer doesn't enjoy the hobbyists critique of Levitts writing which (one would hope) Levitt enjoys as much as we enjoy "carefully repainting the animal’s anuses to their breed’s standard coloration." I can applaude Levitt's use of her food expertise at one point in the article by "feeding a carrot to Blackjack, a 14 year old Morgan."
Perhaps Resmer should be thanking the hobbyists for boosting the popularity Seven Days instead of negatively responding to their critiques.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I have to say, I was going to be really disappointed if no one responded to my post.
