Shortest Vacation Ever

PP & BL I can't compete with Ken Picard's moment in the L.A. Times (see previous post), but I will share this photo of me and my friend Barb Leslie at 215 College Artists' Cooperative gallery. We attended a reception for Jude Bond's exhibit, titled "Beyond the Inland Sea," and found her husband was taking pictures of guests in front of this hand-painted backdrop. Jude had helpfully supplied all kinds of costumes and props; you can see what we quickly grabbed, and interpret it as you will.

The main part of Jude's exhibit features old photos of people enjoying the inland sea, aka the lake, among other tableaux. These are printed on white paper,  which is teasingly obscured with a veil of diaphanous fabric. This in turn is embroidered or appliqued with other fabric bits, augmenting the vintage look that Jude is known for. She's a clever girl with fabric works in general, and isn't afraid to inject whimsy. If you've got any aged fabric, patterns or other sewing-related stuff gathering dust in your house, give it to her instead and it'll likely turn into art.

Jude kindly sent the photo along as a memento of our minute at the shore.
