Holy Mackerel
Look at what just arrived from the HQ of the Democratic candidate for governor -ah, whatshisname?
Scudder Parker to Make Statement on Early Childhood Care and Education
Montpelier, VT - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Scudder Parker will present his vision to build a future for Vermont in which the care and education of our youngest Vermonters is a high priority, at a press conference on Wednesday, August 23 starting at 9:30 AM on the Statehouse steps in Montpelier.
Hey, who was just noticing that here it is late August, and Mr. Parker has had zippo in the way of press conferences on the Statehouse lawn whacking the incumbent?
Gov. Douglas' has his regular weekly press conference scheduled for 10:30 on the nearby Fifth Floor.
What a coincidence!
Let the games begin!

Freyne, if more than 3 pencils (including you) bother to show up, I'll eat my blog. You'd have to actually hold the presser in Darren Allen's pants to get him to pay attention. Or maybe Bob Kinzell's front seat. Or inside any Free Press Reporter's cubicle. If they bother to come, I'll be shocked.

Yeah, they're all hanging on your every word.

Brilliant politician he is, I betcha $10 his proposal will have something to do with raising property taxes even more. I'm sure the already-overtaxed electorate will be very, very excited by that prospect.

Perhaps he should do what Douglas does and raise fees instead?
Cut prebates for the middle class -- like Douglas wanted?
Or propose a state budget that was a few million HIGHER than the Democrats would let him pass?
Vermonters can't afford Douglas's agenda.

Parker's freely admitted love of jacking up property taxes will tank him once the debates start, sure as Clavelle's failure to understand his own health care plan did. At least I'm reasonably sure he won't say he's "got a bigger pair of scissors" than Douglas, like Petey did. Good pick there, Scudder.

Whattya know?
You call out Scudder's weak news making and lo and behold?
Coincidence? Perhaps...
Or the power of the blogs, eh Peter?
Here's hoping the Scudder camp doesn't make this a one time thing...
Or Darren Allen's going to need some big trousers...

Mr. Peepers,
You can run from the facts but they remain the same:
Douglas raised fees.
Douglas proposed cutting prebates for middle class Vermonters.
Douglas proposed MORE spending than the Democrats in the legislature.
After 4 years in office, Douglas is just realizing that Vermont is unaffordable? We all know that.
The size of state government has increased dramatically since Douglas got into office!!!
Douglas's policies have made Vermont less affordable.

Any chance we'll hear from baby Suri?

Nice try Peter, I mean Katie. Remember how desperately you tried to pump up Clavelle around this time two years ago? How'd that work out for you?

Cathy,
Perhaps our babies could get together for a play date sometime soon? No pictures. You know Tom and his rules.
Mr.Peppers,
I see that you have no answer for all of Gov D's proposed increase in spending. Too bad. Don't be surprised when Gov Scissorhands goes down like a cheap hooker.
Best,
Kate!

"I see that you have no answer for all of Gov D's proposed increase in spending."
My answer is that I'm getting run out Casa de Peepers by property taxes, I couldn't care less about "fees." Property taxes are what's killing Vermont. Douglas has a plan to reduce them, Parker has a plan to raise them. Game over.

Wrong again. Douglas proposed eliminating prebates.
Douglas won't do anything about healthcare -- which is a HUGE driver of property taxes.
Facts are so hard for Republicans.
Game over? Heh. Douglas will be retired come January.
Bye Bye

GO SCUDDER !!!
Why is everyone talking about the Bernie-Tarrant race when this race is WAY more competitve?

"Douglas won't do anything about healthcare"
Yeah, that piece of crap "catamount health" was all his idea.
Douglas is proposing a cap on property taxes. Parker is proposing several programs that would raise them. This race will be over half an hour into the first debate, and Freyne will already be writing a column about how he knew it all along, just like he did with Clavelle.

NEWSFLASH! Catamount Health does nothing to reduce the overall cost of healthcare.
Read up Mr. PP.

"Catamount Health does nothing to reduce the overall cost of healthcare."
No kidding. Turn your sarcasm detector on and remember whose bright idea it was.
Douglas' contribution was to make sure it couldn't impact property taxes without a review.
