When did kale become so cool?  Down at Burlington's Intervale Center, the Healthy City kids are growing vegetables, becoming farmers, volunteering in their community,  working a summer job and changing the world, weed by weed.

Elton John [89]

Elton_4_eva7/21/08: Over 10,000 Elton John fans swarmed the Champlain Valley Expo Monday night to watch the Rocket Man play VT for the first time.

After playing 49 other states, Elton finally made it to Vermont for his 50th.  Fans from all over the country came to see history in the making.

Eva talked to boa-wearing devotees about Sir Elton's charms and sang some of his greatest hits.

We also meet a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary.  Can you guess the name of their son?

Leahy & Batman [88]

Batman_13_leahy_kids 7/12/08: "The Dark Knight" premiered in Montpelier Saturday, days before it's general release.

We have Vermont's own Dark Knight to thank for this rare event - US Senator Patrick Leahy who has a cameo in the film (watch clip).

Patrick Leahy grew up in Montpelier Vermont.  Blind in one eye, he spent much of his free time reading comics at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

Years later, he is the library's favorite Superhero, donating proceeds from his Batman film appearances and this recent screening of The Dark Knight.

Leahy sits down with the library's Comics Clubs to talk about Batman, "The Dark Knight," and why he loves reading.

Warren 4th of July Parade [87]

Warren_2_bush7/4/08: Thousands of people stormed the small town of Warren Friday for their 60th Annual 4th of July Parade.

Everyone was there, a camera-wielding Bush, candidates for governor, a Bummer of a Hummer, gigantic puppets, tractors and characters a plenty.

Rural Vermont is not as quiet as you may think.  Boiling in the backwoods are activists fighting for political change, energy independence and the POWER of green.

Tom Messner [86]

Messner_7Tom Messner has been delivering the weather with a smile for 18 years on WPTZ/NewsChannel 5.

His grandma assumed he would grow up to be a chatty salesman.  Little did she know, Tom would one day be 'selling' the weather to the masses with his trademark grin.

Messner is so well-known that he can't get very far without being recognized.  That is the thing about being a popular weatherman, people feel like they know you since you come into their living room every night.

What many people want to know is, what lies beneath that jovial smile?  Is Messner legit?  You be the judge.

I, for one, am happy to know Messner is out there representing VT for us on TV shows like Regis and Kelly and the Today Show.  GO TOM!
