Vermont Blogger Meet Up II

So I got a request from Jeff at Alphecca that I organize another Vermont blogger meet up. I'm into it. And I don't mind being "the hub" of the organizational effort, despite the dismal turnout at last year's event. Of course, the gathering last year happened before I had found most of the bloggers on my blogroll.

I'm thinking of having it the Saturday of the first weekend in November. Any later than that, and we risk cutting into holiday time, or being cancelled due to weather. Anybody have any suggestions for location? I've heard that we might have a wi-fi enabled van to use. More on that later.

I'm putting this up to gauge interest, and to say, "save the date." If you have any objections, or suggestions, now's the time to bring them up.

Due to my not being able to make it to last year's 1st annual VT blogger gathering after I said I would be, I will not promise this time around, but if I can manage to do so provided I am able to get there and back where ever it is held, I will try my best do so.

Otherwise, if need be I suppose, I will have to ghost or, rather shadow the event by reading and commenting on the blogs of those attending whom are live blogging during it.

Hope to be there in-person however.

I wish I could make it but that weekend is bad for me. All the same, I think it'll still be warm enough to go to Battery Park in Burlington. Also, if we wanted something sort of special there's always a gondolier ride up to the top of Mount Mansfield. I hear the restaurant up there has a wifi.

yeah Greg and I are in as long as it's not the second weekend. Mt Mansfield would be a fun gondola ride as long as it's not a bank-breaker.

Yeah, I'm away the 2nd weekend of Nov. too.

Um, not sure about the gondola ride. That sounds a little extravegent. I was thinking of a largish room someplace easy to get to. But I'm open to the suggestion.

I work alternate weekends and the first in Nov is one of them. The Saturday or Sundays I can come would be Oct 29-30, Nov 12-13.

Jessamyn just told me about the plan this afternoon. The first week in November sounds good, so far. I'll keep my eyes open for updates.

Halloween weekend might be weird for me but anytime in November works. Sounds like fun. We need a meet place in meatspace.

Dear Cathy-- May I suggest the Windjammer restaurant in South Burlington (802-862-6585) as a good location for the meeting. I have been there several times with OWLs and can tell you that they have a really beautiful large meeting room, that they are very good to groups, and that they have an extremely reasonable menu, possible for even someone with a limited income like mine.

The date is fine by me, and I am very much looking forward to meeting so many of the people I know only on line....

It is only a thought and, then is merely one offered as a suggestion at that, however it came to mind that those VT bloggers who have transportation of their own and whom plan on attending the 2005 VT BloggerCon might want to consider bringing *at least* one other person with them to the event (and, if possible, bring more than one person), preferably someone without any clue of what blogs and blogging is about or why we are into it as we are.

In addition, if you know someone who is a blogger or someone who has otherwise indicated an interest in learning more about blogs and blogging, it would be great if you could bring them along of course.

For my part, since I was in need of a ride back and forth if I were to attend this year's event and stated as much in my earlier comment post within this particular string, Pat Hejny has kindly offered me a ride (here) -- which of course I gladly will accept. Thank you Pat!

I'd love to come ... but the first Saturday in Nov. is bad for me, teaching a workshop. I'll keep watching the thread to see if the date shifts!

Hmmm. I would really like to pick a date that's good for everyone, but it's looking like that's not possible. October 29 is actually good for me, as is Nov. 5. I think those are the best two dates, unless we wanted to do Sunday October 30, or Sunday Nov. 6.

Does anybody mind if we do a Sunday?

Also, I haven't heard any location suggestions, other than the gondola. Anybody got a better one yet?

Cathy:

Pat Hejny had offered up a suggestion of her own posted within this particular comment string earlier today, here.

As far as when goes, depending on what is good on Pat's end of things as she has volunteered to provide me with a ride and if she is able to make it if it scheduled on some other day/date, on my own end either Saturday and Sunday you mentioned
are fine by me. In general, holding it on a Sunday is not a problem for me.

Sunday, Oct 30th is fine for me. Probably be a bit warmer, too, than a later date in Nov incase we want to do something outdoorsy. Can't say I really want to ride around in a gondola but if others do... Some place in central Vermont would be good so people from all corners of the state could attend without too much of a drive. That was the only reason I suggested someplace in Rutland. Montpelier is sort of central, too, and would be easier for all the bloggers from the Burlington area. Nice town. We could take over a restaurant if any are open on a Sunday or if it's a nice day, hang on the Capital steps. I wonder if the building's wi-fi covers those...

I don't mind Sunday, and the last weekend in October happens to be a free one on my calendar right now.
