Extra Extra: Ernesto Burden's moving back to New Hampshire
Well this is a bummer. For us Vermonters, anyway. In case you missed it, Ernesto Burden is the New Media Manager for the Rutland Herald/Times Argus papers. Apparently, he's leaving to go back to work for a paper in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Ernesto has overseen some interesting, award-winning experiments at the RH/TA. Those papers have two staff bloggers — Darren Allen and Heather Aja — and they're the first in Vermont (that I know of) to start reader blogs. In terms of cyberjournalism, the RH/TA is #1 in the state. I don't know how much of that is thanks to Ernesto, but I'm guessing he had a lot to do with it. So I'm sad to see him go, especially since I never actually got to meet him in person.
Ernesto's also got his own blog, linked in the blogroll to the side. His wife's got a blog, too — Milkweed Hill. Guess I'll be de-listing them soon. Nothing personal. Sigh. I'm curious to know who's taking his place. Thanks, Morgan, for the tip.

Ah, Cathy, it's a low blow to us all. This good RHTA blog was just getting off to a good start, and now we have to wonder how it will proceed!

I just want to publicly add my name to the list of people who will miss Ernesto's presence here in Montpelier and Vermont. In addition to his becoming a friend, Ernesto was the sole motivator behind our use of the web to enhance our legislative coverage. Without Ernesto, Hall Monitor wouldn't, in all probability, be a realty.
I'll miss you, man. But that doesn't mean we can't get together for that occasional transcendental conversation and a bottle of 18-year-old single malt.
Adios, mi amigo.

Cathy: Thanks for the kind words! I'm confident the experiments will continue and the sites will just keep getting better -- the Times Argus and Rutland Herald have leadership who really believe in New Media and the staff is terrific. I'll miss being a part of the 802 Online blog community. You've really done amazing work with this blog.
Pat: The current plan is for those blogs to go on!
Darren: As usual, you give too much credit for stuff you did the heavy lifting on! Building these things is easy, writing great original content for them on a regular basis ... that's the part that really counts. And of course conversation and single malt always sound good to me!
