New 7D blog: Shot in the Dark

Steveelliot_1Shot in the Dark is a compilation of photos shot by Myesha Gosselin. The feature appears in the print edition of Seven Days each week, on the inside back page of section A.

Feel free to use this thread to tell us what you think. We're still working out some kinks.

I like Myesha's photos and a photo column and accompanying photo blog is a great idea.

That said, I have a couple of constructive criticism comments (wow, aliterate much?). My concern with A Shot in the Dark (as I have already expressed to Cathy) is that it's very focused on scenester events, featuring Burlington's "hipsterati" (the "indier than thou" set to quote scene denizen Ben McIntyre). Don't get me wrong, I'm friends with a lot of the folks I see in Myesha's column and I've appeared there myself and it's fun to see those familiar faces in the paper. But Seven Days has suffered in the past from a reputation (justified or not) for being an echo chamber for the popular boys and girls. Those members of the community not lucky enough to grace the pages of 7D might get a little indignant at being left out. I would love to see Myesha cover a party at the Elk's lodge, or a police dept. event, or some bowling league action.

A lesser bit of criticism is that the white-on-black design is really hard on my eyes and I suffer from retinal burn. It's a problem that keeps me from reading several blogs I would otherwise frequent.

More 7D blogs!

Me too.

Or a UVM car wash, or Al's French Frys, or Finnegans, or even church.

That's AWESOME!

Hey, I interviewed a traditional Quebecois/Franco-American singer-songwriter this week. That's pretty hip, oui?

ah ha! constructive criticism...i knew it existed!

all good points. i would love to push the envelope more and go to church events and such(see yoga kirtan) but i was told my agenda is primarily sponsors...which seems to be a bit more flexible these days as i go to the odd soccer or scrabble event without reprimand...I myself would go strictly to these sorts of events...but i think that is why we have the Scene @. but how am i doing these days?

I agree with the comment on the blog aesthetic.
