Chisholm on the Future
A quote from Jim Chisholm, strategy advisor for the Future of the Newspaper project at last week's World Association of Newspapers advertising conference in Paris:

"Publishers continue to fail to adjust their business models to reflect the modern market," he said. "We remain over-protectionist about print. Time is running out. Migration is accelerating. Tradition's only value is as a springboard, from which to promote the new business model."

He's right, of course, but the new business model for old line print newspapers is not always obvious. Meanwhile, they will continue to diminish in importance as a trusted news source. The tragedy is the economics of their business may not sustain their vital news gathering and reporting mission, something that most bloggers do not do.
