More Seven Days 2010 Daysie Staff Picks
A few weeks ago, Seven Days readers voted for their picks in our annual Daysies awards. Find the results in this week's newspaper, or online here.
In addition, the Seven Days editorial staff has chosen to bestow a few Daysies of our own. We'll be posting them on this blog over the next couple days.
Here's the second batch of our picks:
Best bathroom: Dragonfly Cafe, Colchester
Bright, airy, and plenty of soap and fragrances with stone tile work to die for. I bet plenty of the DC's patrons wish their kitchens were as nice as this loo. Two rolls up. - Ken Picard
Best place to listen to pseudo-intellectuals wax philosophical: outside of Radio Bean
Beware
of treading on the sidewalk in front of Radio Bean if you're square,
stuck-up or just in a plain bad mood. For outside the "counter-culture"
coffee shop reside our city's armchair philosophers, waxing
intellectual about Hegel, oppression and how hard it is to find the
perfect latte. Alas. But if you want a dollop of Neo-Marxism with your
soy chai, then pull up a chair and drink it all in. - Lauren Ober
Best fish tacos: Costello's Market in Middlebury
When the gourmet market introduced its take on the fish taco as a lunch special a few years ago, it didn't take long for locals to become obsessed. Now a permanent fixture on the menu, it's pretty simple: deep-fried haddock — delivered fresh each day — tucked inside a crisp flour tortilla with melted cheddar cheese, creole mayo, lettuce, onion and tomato. But the fresh ingredients and that amazing mayo make the sum much greater than its parts. - Megan James
Best combo of merchandise: Hero's Welcome General Store:
Where else in Vermont can you buy VT maple syrup, dental tools, Nordic skates, and a purple pimp-daddy hat ideal for a '70s funk party? Talk about one-stop shopping! - Ken Picard
