Boloco's Bad and Good Karma

A welcome twist of fate befell the crew at Burlington burrito joint Boloco today when a man walked in holding the sign that had been stolen from outside the store last February.

Will McDunnah was moving into a new sublet apartment when, he says, he found the double-sided sign at the back of a closet. Today he returned it to a delighted staff, who awarded him with a gift card loaded up with free burritos.

When asked who might have stolen the sign, New England area manager Andy Barker says, "We didn't want to sleuth. As an organization, we believe in good karma."

Back when the sign was stolen, "we were pretty bumming," Barker adds. The sign cost the Boston-based company $1500. Management put up posters offering a reward, but no one came forward. "We used to joke that a small felony was one of the greatest forms of flattery," says Barker.

The company waited several months before ordering a new sign, this one from Wood & Wood of Plainfield. That piece is slated to be delivered soon.

Boloco has 16 stores throughout Boston and New England. Barker manages the stores in Burlington, Hanover, N.H., and Concord, N.H. Both New Hampshire stores are busier than the Vermont location, he says.

McDunnah will be enjoying burritos and smoothies for the near future. "We'll take care of him. He's a friend of Boloco," says Barker.
