BCA Center Launches Visiting Critic Program
Hey, artists! Looking for professional feedback on your work? Then you might consider signing up for Burlington City Arts' new Visiting Critic program.
The idea is to bring "influential arts writers, institutional curators and commercial gallerists" to town for both a free public lecture and as many studio visits as time, and interest, allows.
"We've started the Visiting Critic program as a way to help connect Vermont-based artists with arts professionals from outside of the state," explains BCA Center curator DJ Hellerman. "Artists ask me all of the time for advice on how to connect with gallerists and other curators. Starting this program seemed to be the most direct way of helping facilitate that process."
First up, July 11-13, is Jasmin Tsou, owner of New York City's JTT gallery. Tsou opened the venue in March of last year and represents a variety of clients from emerging to established artists. She has also been a director at the Kimmerich Gallery and curated a number of independent projects.
Heather McGill is the visiting critic September 26-28. McGill is artist-in-residence and head of the sculpture department at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. She has previously taught at UC-Berkeley and the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
