Monday, January 14

• At 8:30 a.m., ex-Vermont State Police Sgt. James Deeghan will appear in a Burlington courtroom for a change of plea hearing in his fraud case. As the Burlington Free Press' Mike Donoghue reported on Saturday, prosecutors allege Deeghan padded his salary by $213,000 with phony time sheets. 
• At 10 a.m., the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit will hear the state's appeal in the case of Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee v. Gov. Peter Shumlin et al. in a New York City courtroom. Vermont lost round one, you'll recall, when Judge J. Garvan Murtha ruled the legislature overstepped its authority trying to shut down the nuke plant.
• At noon, Vermont Public Radio tackles the state economy on "Vermont Edition" with that dynamic duo, Paul Cillo from the Public Assets Institute and University of Vermont economics professor Art Woolf.
• At 1 p.m., Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger will join Montpelier Mayor John Hollar at the Burlington Police Department for a press conference "demanding an end to gun violence." Rutland Mayor Chris Louras is part of the effort, too, but won't be there.
• At 3 p.m., Doug Hoffer makes his first appearance before a legislative committee (House Appropriations) as the newly sworn-in state auditor.

Tuesday, January 15

• At 11 a.m., Gov. Peter Shumlin will be in far-flung Derby for an "economic development announcement." Stay tuned...
• Also at 11 a.m., Mayor Weinberger will hold a press conference on an unspecified topic. Uh, couldn't you dudes have coordinated?
• At 2:45 p.m., new Education Secretary Armando Vilaseca digs into the governor's proposed public education reforms before the House Education Committee.

Wednesday, January 16

• At 7:30 a.m., the Burlington Business Association holds its 11th Business Summit. Mayor Weinberger will Skype into the summit from Washington, D.C., where he'll be attending something called the Mayors Innovation Project Meeting.
• At 11 a.m., Gov. Shumlin holds his weekly press conference. Details TBD.
• At 6:30 p.m., Burlington police hold a public meeting to solicit ideas for establishing a "21st- century version of a neighborhood watch" for citizens, businesses and city neighborhoods. At the police station on North Avenue.

Thursday, January 17

• Mayor Weinberger will be in D.C. today and Friday for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Friday, January 18

• Gov. Shumlin and Lt. Gov. Phil Scott will both hit up the Yankee Sportsman's Classic Show at the Champlain Valley Expo this weekend. Shumlin drops by at 5 p.m. today. Scott drops by Saturday. 
• Get your VT politics fix with Stewart Ledbetter and crew on "Vermont This Week," 7:30 p.m. on Vermont Public Television.

Saturday, January 19

• Gov. Shumlin shoves off for Washington, D.C., today for President Obama's inauguration. With any luck, we'll get some live tweeting.

Sunday, January 20

• "You Can Quote Me" airs at 11 a.m. on WCAX-TV. Check the station's website later this week for guests.
• In case you missed it, watch the rebroadcast of "Vermont This Week" at 11:30 a.m. on VPT. 
• PBS host and author Tavis Smiley will keynote Burlington's Martin Luther King Jr. day celebration at 3 p.m., at the First Unitarian Universalist Society at the top of Church Street. The event is free but you'll need a ticket — available at City Market or Fletcher Free Library.
