A quick report.

Saw the Flaming Lips last night. A handful of songs, anyway. It was rather not good, so I left. More on that in my column, or maybe here. Or both.

Walked back down the hill, met a friend at the O.P., then swung into Radio Bean and had my head torn off by Nick Cassarino and his guitar brilliance.

And what a fine band he has. I'll be blabbing about them more in the near future.

As for now, I'm a bit hung over. Tonight is the Art Hop. Hurrah!

UPDATE ON FLAMING LIPS:

I decided to give a more in-depth review of the Lips' performance in next Wednesday's Sound Bites column. Be sure to read it, lest you miss my every precious, pithy comment.

Hey Casey,
You should have stuck around, it got quite good at the end. Did you ever get my email?

casey

Glad to hear, but I don't know if I would've been won over. I got you e-mail; sorry I haven't responded... Trying to sort things out...

I was annoyed the whole night. I loved the theatrics and the balloons and such, until about halfway through, when I couldn't see the stage because of the balloons and was constantly afraid of getting bonked on the head. Not that it would hurt, but one doesn't generally enjoy getting bonked on the head. Also, I was not enamoured with Wayne's 30-seconds-too-long inspirational speaches, and the amps blowing more then once. (although, to be fair, I'm sure that has more to do with UVM's bad wiring in a gymnasium then it does with the band.)

Also, I arrived 30 minutes late, and I totally missed the first band, Oh No! Oh My! which was a pretty big reason why I went in the first place.

However, as I was leaving, they encored with War Pigs, which was fairly awesome.

Then I went to Green Room, paid for my drink, and somehow lost my wallet on the bike ride home. So now I have no wallet. Argh. (it is a yellow Pandapple wallet, in case anyone spots it).

I give the entire evening a B-, unless I figure my wallet into it, and then it gets a D-.

casey

Sorry 'bout your wallet, BZ. Say, dont'cha have some fashion show to get to?

SRUT!

Molly

Precious pity comments! I need some of those. I incinerated my wallet because it was bugged. By whom?!? We may never know.

casey

Pithy, my dear. In my haste, I dropped the "h." It shall be fixed forthwith.

I haven't been to a rock show in about five years. I was pretty thrilled to hear some songs that I know the words to at tractor pull volume level. The opening bands had a few cool moments as well. As a Lips fan I felt pretty thorougly rocked.

casey

It's great when you go to a "big rock show" and can get pumped at every song they play 'cause you know and love all of them.

Glad you enjoyed it. I love a lot of Lips music, but got bored once the spectacle wore off; I would've prefered listening to the records.

Secretly, I was hoping to be blown away, as not to always seem so cynical. Oh well. I'm sure something will do it soon.

Murf

Oh No! Oh My! opened up for them! Damn it. I bagged going to the show but if I had known Oh No! Oh My! was opening, I would have gone. Damn. Damn. Damn.
