Heavyfest 2011 [224]

5/21/11: Big Heavy World teamed up with Magic Hat Brewing Company and Performing Arts Center to present Heavyfest, the first outdoor concert of the season.

The rain held off, the sun shone brightly and Judgment Day came and went. Meanwhile, hundreds of revelers enjoyed plentiful Magic Hat beer, BBQ and local music courtesy of Heloise & The Savoir Faire, Rustic Overtones, Waylon Speed, Casio Bastard, Pariah Beat, Japhy Ryder and Jah Red.

Heavyfest 2011 raised over $5000 for Big Heavy World, a local non-profit, volunteer-run organization who archive and promote Vermont music and  operate The Radiator Burlington's community radio station (105.9 on your radio dial).

Charlie's Boat House & the Flood of 2011 [223]

5/13/11: Lake Champlain's record high water levels have affected many Vermonters adversely this spring. Charlie's Boat House sits at the end of North Avenue where the Winooski River meets Lake Champlain in Burlington.

This historic landmark and summer fixture dates back to the 1920s. Charlie Auer was preparing to open for the summer season when the flooding began and now he is not sure what the future holds for the Auer Family Boat House.

Eva visited Charlie and his sister Christine last summer in happier (and drier) times (watch the video). This week she returns to the boat house to survey the water damage with Charlie.

And as the rain continues, the questions still remain, does this historic landmark have a future? And what would Burlington be like without it?

Lois Trombley [222]

5/8/11: Lois Trombley is a multi-talented local artist who wears many (top) hats such as dancer, choreographer, teacher, and performer.

This Friday, the Spielpalast Cabaret, which Trombley co-created, directs, choreographs, and stars in, celebrates its 10th year at City Hall in Burlington.

A former cabaret member and a dance student of Lois', Eva caught up with the cast during rehearsals for a peek behind their lacy curtains.
