Happy Trails to You

As George Harrison wrote, all things must pass.

Seven Days is making some changes to the newspaper's on-line presence and the "Yo Hackie" blog will not be part of the new configuration. Next Wednesday, March 26th, will be its last day of life, and there will be no last moment commutation from the Governor. (I actually had my lawyers call Douglas and he said, "No f-ing way.")

Folks, it's all good. I had a good run with this blogging thing, nearly a full year. I've had the opportunity to exchange views - via the comments - with many readers, and I thank everyone who took the time to read the blog and/or post comments. It's been fun and meaningful.

Thanks also go out to the paper, and, in particular, to the on-line editor, the fabulous Cathy Resmer. Cathy, it's been a delight to work with you over the past year. You have been nothing other than encouraging and supportive.

I'll probably post a few more times over the next week. After that, the fortnightly "Hackie" column will do all the talking for me. As always, feel free to stay in communication with me through my email address which you can find at the end of every column.

Adios, amigos!

Peace out.

Dude,
Sorry to see the blog go. Guess I'll have to break down and buy one of your books to get my fix in between articles.
Happy trails, Yo Hackie!

One year of Hackie has been lovely! Also sad to see you go but glad to have you in the paper every other week! Good on ya!

Thanks, Eva, for all your keen comments over the past year. You are the cat's pajamas.

And, David, yes by all means - break down and buy a Hackie book! : )

Hackie

I have enjoyed reading your blog very much in addition to always reading your column...will miss it [the blogging].

I only regret that I didn't tell you sooner.

We need good storytellers in our lives and you certainly fit the bill!

Many blessings,
Linda

Linda - thanks for taking the time to send this note. Even in this, the 11th hour of the blog, it touched me. Blessings from the Northeast Kingdom are deep blessings indeed . . .

Jernigan - your insights will be greatly missed, at least on the more frequent basis we've had the priviledge of reading over the last year, it was neat to read your comments after the fact and feedback on your regular column, but glad that you'll still be biweekly! Enjoy Spring! (when it comes....)

Boo! We'll miss your blog!!! :( Keep writing those columns! I need my Hackie fix. :)

This sucks. Jernigan, your blog is awesome. Your writting and insights are awesome.

It's tragic to think that you won't be doing this anymore.

You don't need 7Days to blog. Just start your own, man.

www.jerniganpontiac.com -- has a nice ring to it, no??

This is bullshit!!! This is the only thing I read in seven days and for damn sure the only reason I go to their website. What the hell are they thinking? What exactly are we getting more of in lieu of your great and special insight into Burlington and its residents? More freyne land? I'm seriously heartbroken!!!

Hey, I'm glad everybody liked Jernigan's blog so much. I've told him that he's more than welcome to post his thoughts and observations on Blurt, our new Seven Days staff blog. And of course he could start his own blog.

We're discontinuing Yo, Hackie! because we're overhauling all of our blogs -- I just gave mine up, too.

Nothing personal. We love Jernigan's work. We're just reconfiguring how we present information on the web. If there's a way for him to fit into that new format, I promise we will find it and make it happen.

Hackie! No!! You're the reason I started checking out this website on a regular basis...

You CAN'T be serious!?! yo hackie is the only reason I even READ the seven days, I may read something with in the website but only after I've gotten my hackie fix!

I'm one of those poor vermonters that go without a LOT, we live in a one bedroom apartment, its an hour away from work/preschool, without TV or internet, we don't eat out or get "extra's"- my one highlight for the day is when I get to read hackie on my lunch break at wor, it makes me laugh and momentarly takes me somewhere else than my own life... what a disapointment its disapearing :( A choice that should really be re-thought again, and again, and then AGAIN

Jernigan your the BEST! Keep writing somewhere, anywhere! :)

Sammy, Jernigan will still be writing his bi-weekly column, which you can find in the newspaper and on the website.
